Standing prominently on rocky terrain, the sculpture bears intricate carvings, including runic inscriptions. Archaeologist Sidsel Wåhlin has deciphered the runes, which spell out "Perkunas" alongside the year "2023". Perkunas is a Baltic god associated with thunder and war, adding an air of ancient mysticism to the puzzling find.
Interestingly, this is not the first time such a sculpture has appeared without explanation. In August 2023, a wooden post with a strikingly similar design was discovered on Folkestone Beach near Dover, Kent, in southeastern England. This original "totem pole" was also inscribed with the name "Perkunas".
Sally Smith, a Strategic Manager at Kent Wildlife Trust, was surprised by the emergence of an identical sculpture in Denmark.
"Wow, it looks exactly like ours," she stated to Danish news agency Bornholms Tidende.

Mystery "totem poles" compared: Denmark on the left, and England on the right.
"It was suddenly just there one morning, and no one knew where it came from," explained Sally.
Since then, the Kent sculpture has become an accepted part of the landscape. Sally is fascinated by the recent discovery in Denmark and eager to learn whether the two sculptures are linked.
"This is really exciting! It would be amazing if we could find out who is behind them. We still don't know who placed ours, but I would love to find out," she said.
Meanwhile, reactions to the Danish sculpture have been mixed. Some see it as a captivating and enigmatic piece of art, while others feel it disrupts the natural landscape. Local authorities and conservationists are currently debating whether to allow the sculpture to remain, or whether it should be removed.
For now, the origins of the both sculptures remain an enigma. Could they be part of a larger artistic or cultural project? Or do they have a deeper, more symbolic meaning? Until the creator steps forward, the mystery will continue to captivate those who stumble upon these intriguing structures.
